Northern NSW Photography: Hostess with the Mostest

As I'm sitting writing this post, Mick is cooking up the home grown tomatoes and garlic that we sourced from local farmers stalls. I wish you could smell it.

We've just spent an amazing few days at our friends' James house on Toohey's Mill Farm in Northern NSW hinterland. The farm grows macadamias and pecans. It's such a magic part of the world; I think I'm in love. We could barely tear ourselves away, even though the beach was 20 minutes away.

There was lots of staring in rapture at the scenery, and of course, what seems a now obligatory cricket match every time we go away. This time, we has a few families from neighboring farms join us, which made for a full team. The farm owners, Michael and Grace, are absolutely lovely; Michael even mowed us a special cricket pitch!

As you would expect from Mick and I, there was also lots of food involved. James gave us a local foodies tour, and we came home with a car-ful of produce.  I would thoroughly recommend Harvest, a cafe at Newybar that makes the best bread I've ever eaten in their wood-fired oven. We also dined at Che Bon, a simple, but tasty, french bistro set in a sheep paddock. About as far from France as you can get, but somehow reminded me of some of the little family bistros we'd found in rural areas. You can't go wrong with a three course meal for $37. We also picked up some fresh (and by fresh, I mean just picked and roasted two days ago) coffee from our favourites, Red Door Coffee.

So a great start to the New Year; thankyou so much James for having us.
